A Review from School of Theology

Being a member of St Thomas Crookes gives us some amazing privileges and Saturday’s School of Theology was no exception.

I work on staff media team, and it struck me whilst photographing Dr Chris Tiling, a renowned theologian from St Paul’s Theological Centre (STPC), speaking with passion and gusto on the man and work’s of St Paul, some of unbelievable benefits we have here at St Thomas Crookes.

Being able to hear international speakers, who coming through our doors or who have kindly allowed us exclusive access to DVD footage from STPC, to speak on an array of deeply theological, yet practical, issues; is a privilege we ought not to take for granted.

In addition to Chris Tiling, Matt Wilson from The Message brought the scriptures to life through testimonies of their work amongst urban youth.

Further still, on the other end of the building Elaine Storkey, sociologist and theologian – known for her lecturing, writing and broadcasting – was unpacking culture and mission.  It was only this time a couple of weeks ago that Elaine was delivering a speech at General Synod before the senior members of Parliament and the Church of England.

All within our local church!

So let me leave this encouragement with you.  You may view St Thomas Crookes as just your home church at the top of the hill (and let’s face it, whatever direction you come from, it is up a hill!) where you come to meet friends, meet God and try to live your life better;

Yet, we have a unique opportunity to learn from some of the best thinkers on theology, and Godly men and women in the Kingdom at this time.  All within a stone’s throw of your front door.

Make the most of it!
