Praying generally for Alpha…
We really value your prayer for the Alpha courses this term. Check the prayer baskets at the front of the Worship Area for updates on how the Alpha courses are going.
Leading a Mini-Alpha…
If you are leading a Mini-Alpha write prayer requests as you do your course on the yellow General Prayer Cards, which can be found and deposited at the Welcome Desk, and people will pray for you. You can also email prayer requests, questions or testimonies to alpha@stthomascrookes.org or call (0114) 267 1090. We would love to hear from you!
Mini Alpha
Mini-Alphas are about watching short talks on DVD and talking about them with friends/colleagues. Each talk lasts 20 minutes and is followed by a short informal time of discussion.
You can do a Mini-Alpha anywhere you like with 1 or 2 friends. It’s lots of fun and very straight-forward. Here’s what to do:
- Let us know you want to lead your own Mini-Alpha course by emailing alpha@stthomascrookes.org or calling 0114 267 1090. Having spoken with you we will then make an Alpha DVD pack (including booklet) available for use. Packs are lent out and returned at the end of each course.
- Work out when & where to host your Alpha course. Home? Lunch break at work? Coffee shop?
- Pray for your course & those you want to invite.
- Invite people and see what happens.
Mini-Alphas consist of nine short sessions. We recommend doing one session a week. A staff member is on hand if you have any questions along the way.
Sessions:
Week 1: Christianity: Boring, Untrue & Irrelevant?
Week 2: Who is Jesus?
Week 3: Why did Jesus die?
Week 4: How can I connect with God?
Week 5: Who is the Holy Spirit & What Does He Do?
Week 6: How can I be sure?
Week 7: Living Free.
Week 8: Telling others?
Week 9: What about the church?
Praise for Mini-Alpha from course leaders:
“Alpha has been freeing and has encouraged openness. We have met in different houses as we’ve done the course.”
David‘The Alpha material is presented in an objective way. There is freedom to question and critique what’s said on the DVD.”
Colin‘The best thing about Alpha was seeing my friends entering into relationship with God. It’s opened up conversations in the pub.”
Becky
From course participants:
‘The Alpha Course enabled me to find my way back to Jesus…and I’ve learnt to pray again.”
Pat‘The Alpha Course was a great opportunity to engage in some pressing issues. It’s a good foundation to start exploring Christianity and life’s big questions.”
Matt
